Programs for Students

 

We develop and present a range of innovative educational experiences for primary and secondary school students, both Jewish and non-Jewish, that respond to the Victorian Curriculum and Jewish Studies curricula from Prep to Year 12. Our education programs cover issues of identity, community, migration, multiculturalism and world religions – and reinforce Victoria’s stated commitment to raising young people who are able to engage positively in our multicultural society.

We illuminate Jewish life, offering resources both in person and remotely. We ensure access to our important education programs via Virtual Incursions, Timeline AR and offer a range of freely accessible resources.

We are delighted to welcome you back to our Museum in a COVID-safe way. Student groups are capped at a maximum of 50 and we suggest allocating at least two hours for your visit. Pre-booking is essential; select from the following packages or contact us to discuss your requirements.

Primary Groups

A standard package could include: In the Basket, worksheet in The Jewish Year gallery, exploration of our Timeline of Jewish History gallery, Synagogue Tour and Sabbath Welcoming Ceremony. Modules such as Jewish Year on a Table or Mock Passover Feast can be added.

Secondary Groups

A standard package could include: Being Jewish in the 21st Century, a worksheet in The Jewish Year gallery, exploration of our Timeline of Jewish History gallery, Synagogue Tour and Sabbath Welcoming Ceremony. Modules such as Jewish Year on a Table or Mock Passover Feast can be added, as can The Jewish Context of the Life and Words of Jesus ($15 additional per student, includes student booklet).

MIRKA

We have designed a series of inquiry-based workshops for Primary, Secondary, and VCE students that cover a wide range of curriculum areas. All workshops use Mirka Mora’s life and work as stimulus for students own art-making and reflection on Holocaust and immigration experiences. They include a tour of the immersive MIRKA exhibition and access to the permanent collection.

Teachers will be provided with a “Mirka Manifesto” to continue to explore Mirka Mora’s life and work in the classroom. The manifesto includes activities that celebrate Mirka’s artistry, politics and joie de vivre and encourage students to reflect and embody these ways of being in their own lives.
