Artist on Artist: Defining Chutzpah with Deborah Conway and Libbi Gorr

26 June, 2025

6:30pm - 8:00pm

Join two icons of wit and wisdom: Deborah Conway and Libbi Gorr, for an unforgettable conversation as they dive deep into the essence of *chutzpah.

With equal parts audacity and charm, Deborah and Libbi will share their own chutzpadik adventure; moments that have occasionally landed them in hot water and at other times, led to unexpected victories.

This lively exchange will complement our new major exhibition: Chutzpah: Spirit. Recollection. Self., a thought-provoking display that invites us into a creative dialogue on the complexities of Jewish identity.

Explore the courage required for artists to navigate and engage with Jewish themes in today’s world, particularly in the face of rising antisemitism, cancel culture and a loss of cultural safety. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience chutzpah in action.

Arrive early to experience Chutzpah for yourself before the event.

Deborah Conway

Deborah Conway burst onto the Australian music scene in the 1980s with Do-Re-Mi’s hit ‘Man Overboard’. After the band disbanded, she pursued diverse projects before launching a successful solo career with String of Pearls (1991), featuring hits like ‘It’s Only The Beginning’

Collaborating with Willy Zygier, she released acclaimed albums including Bitch Epic (1993) and Summertown (2004).

Known for her raw, evolving sound and theatrical flair, she also starred in Always…Patsy Cline. Her 2023 memoir, ‘Book of Life’, offers a candid look at her extraordinary career and life.

Libbi Gorr

Libbi Gorr’s trailblazing career in media and the arts is all based on Chutzpah and Chard Verk. Libbi is one of Australia’s most esteemed interviewers, creative auteurs and humourists.

Whilst still at Law School at Melbourne University she joined the Caulfield’s own Cuties, The Hot Bagels, and helped take Melbourne’s embryonic comedy scene by storm. She transformed this into a stellar career as TV ground breaker Elle McFeast, hosting and writing tonight shows in sports and politics and making ground breaking social satire documentaries with the team at ABC TV Comedy.

Post McFeast and in family mode, Libbi moved into ABC radio and ABC TV 7.30 and News Breakfast, to pave the way for her current portfolio of TV and Film development, whilst creating the new podcast Red Card For Mummy and Other Soccer Stories, for families new to soccer, who’d love to learn the culture.

Libbi is in awe of Deborah Conway, and always has been.
