This course covers the many affairs of Jewish identity and life through the ages:
A Foreign Affair – Enlightenment, focusing on the Eighteenth Century Western and Central European Enlightenment and the radical changes it wrought in Jewish life.
A Catered Affair –Emancipation, the emergence of the peripheral Jew, the rise of Jewish nationalism and denominationalism in Europe.
From an Affair in Damascus to an Affair in Paris – tracing the roots of antisemitism
A Monastic Affair, a Case of Mistaken Identity – Jewish Identity in the modern era
The Jacobs’ Affair – an Affair of the Divine, the  Jacobs’ Affair of the 1960s and the theology of divine revelation together with its implications for Jewish law (halachah).
