The Jewish Museum of Australia celebrates a quarter of a century reflecting Jewish diversity in contemporary Australia.
With a broad spectrum of belief and practice in the Australian Jewish landscape, the Jewish Museum of Australia’s pluralist approach to Jewish identity stands alone in its reflection of the community it represents. Help us sustain the integral role we play by supporting three significant projects:

Director’s Chair Endowment Fund:
With an intellectual depth and breadth attracting accolades from the broader arts community in Australia, Dr Helen Light AM for the past 25 years has steered the Jewish Museum an
awe-inspiring range of exhibitions and programs that reflect the diversity of Jewish life. By supporting this fund, you will be honouring the Director’s role and ensuring long-term financial viability of the Museum.

Australian Jewish History Gallery Refurbishment:
The Australian Jewish History Gallery is the prime and unique focus of our Museum. This is where Australians and Jews come to learn about our history and reflect on our dynamic Australian Jewish community. The refurbishment aims to clarify our antipodean story using a narrative framework, to include more personal and family stories, and to interact and support our schools curriculum ‘Teaching Our History’. |

Lead Gift from Pauline and John Gandel AO
We are thrilled and honoured to announce that the Gandel Foundation has agreed to donate $1m towards
the establishment of an Endowment Fund for the Director’s Chair. This donation will be given dollar for
dollar matched against other donations received for the same Fund. In this way John and Pauline are ensuring the future financial security of the institution which all of us have together worked so hard to establish.

Director’s Chair Endowment Fund:
Inspired leadership is at the heart of the Museum’s success. With an intellectual depth and breadth repeatedly attracting accolades from the broader arts community in Australia, Dr Helen Light AM for the past 25 years has passionately steered the Jewish Museum through an awe-inspiring range of exhibitions and programs that reflect the diversity of Jewish life. The Director’s Chair Endowment Fund is an opportunity to support and honour the Director’s role and to ensure the long-term financial viability of the Museum. We need to raise $2.5 million for the Director’s Chair Endowment Fund to ensure the sustainability of our foundation.
Virtual Museum:
Remarkable modern technology has given us the means to have the international community visit us and enter our world the Jewish Museum of Australia On-Line. On another level of creativity, we will be devising special exhibitions for the global audience as well as showcasing the Museum’s permanent and temporary exhibitions. The astonishing 15,000 items that are the Museum’s collection will be available digitally to scholars, researchers, other museums and virtual visitors around the world. We need to raise $550,000 to create this cutting edge initiative.
Australian Jewish History Gallery Refurbishment:
Australian Jews are a link in the millennial chain of Jewish culture, belief and experience. The Australian Jewish History Gallery shows what distinguishes our experience of living as Jews in Australia, today. Our stories differentiate our Museum from any other in the world: they are of our own community and its unique history. In the refurbishment of this gallery, to ensure that it is engaging, informative and relevant to its audience and our community, we aim to clarify the story using a narrative framework, to include more personal and family stories, and to interact with and support our schools curriculum “Teaching Our History”.The Australian Jewish History Gallery is the prime and unique focus of our Museum. This is where Australians and Jews come to learn about our history. It is therefore essential for this core exhibition to remain relevant to and reflective of our dynamic Australian Jewish community. Our story needs reinterpretation and updating with new objects, new technologies and new perspectives. To achieve this aspiration it will cost the Museum $500,000.
