Louis Kahan Louis Kahan was born in Vienna in 1905, and after
working as an artist in Paris, arrived in Australia in 1947. Until
1950 he lived in Perth where his first exhibition was opened by
the then Director of the Art Gallery of WA. He moved to Melbourne
and continued to exhibit in all the capital cities of Australia.
He then spent four years living and working in Paris and London
where he studied Stained Glass painting. He now lives in Melbourne.
As well as being a well known painter, Louis Kahan has designed
several productions for the Australian Opera, and stained glass
windows for churches and synagogues. He has received many awards,
and is represented in important collections including the Victoria
and Albert Museum, London, Albertina Museum, Vienna, National Gallery
of Australia, Canberra, Government House, Canberra, and many regional
galleries.
