Contemporary designer Laura Cowan specialises in Judaica and silver smithing. Laura began her career in London creating futuristic jewellery pieces. After making Aliyah, she brought her unique ideas to the field of Judaica, working from her design studio and workshop in Neve Tsedek, Tel Aviv. Laura creates unique and original pieces many of which have been inspired by the 1960’s mission to land a man on the moon. “My recent work is based on a rocket shape. I was inspired by the Sixties mission to land a man on the moon. Although this was achieved even before I was born, I was fascinated by the hype and excitement generated by the race to the moon. I also loved the irony of a futuristic design based on what is now history.” Laura works in silver, brass, copper, stainless steel and aluminium. Laura’s range includes handcrafted mezuzot, pewter mezuzot, candlesticks, Chanukiot, apple and honey plates and seder plates. Laura’s fresh ideas contribute to a new wave of exciting Judaica design, shaking up the traditional market and generating worldwide interest. Laura’s work is sold in Israel, America, Canada, Italy, England and Australia.
