Being Jewish in the 21st century

Being Jewish in the 21st Century helps students to understand and recognise the many shared traits and interests of all young Australians, regardless of their religious backgrounds. The program uses the photographs and narratives of a young Australian Jew to teach participants about details of a contemporary Jewish Australian life as well as current religious rituals.

Questions are posed in the album and, by exploring the Museum’s Belief and Ritual gallery, students are able to find the corresponding answers. By contributing distinct pieces of information, the students build their personal understanding as well as the group’s understanding of various Jewish religious ideas, beliefs and practices. This is also an opportunity to examine the conflicts or challenges today’s young Jews may encounter when living a contemporary Australian lifestyle.
