ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Celluloid Soup is Melbourne’s only Jewish Short Film Festival. Celluloid Soup is an initiative of the Jewish Museum of Australia (JMA). The short film festival runs every two years and is considered an inspirational, fun and creative event.

Although the festival is a Jewish Community Initiative, it is an event for people of all cultural, religious and professional backgrounds and promotes a deeper understanding of how Jewish issues relate to the world as a whole. Film content is by no means restricted to Jewish themes and the more diverse the entries, the richer the content for all.

The Festival encourages submissions from film-makers on a nominated theme. Entrants may choose any style of film making, including - documentary, narrative, animation or music. The films may not exceed 7 minutes in duration or 60 seconds if the contestant chooses to enter the special new Quickie Flix competition.

A selection of the best submissions are screened at a Gala Night and judged by prestigious members of the film and arts community.

For the first time as a show of commitment to our belief in new and up and coming filmmakers the festival will offer up to $3,000 cash! There will also be a big gala after party!
