5 week course (November 13, 20, 27, December 4, 11)

Back by popular demand! Today the nexus between Judaism and Christianity marks a high point in the history of Jewish-Christian relations. The same cannot be said, however about the relationship between Judaism and Islam. But this has not always been the case. Indeed it can be argued that during the Middle Ages, the Islamic-Jewish connection bred relatively less violence, persecution and confrontation than relations between Christians and Jews. In this five-week course we will explore the story of the long and complex relationship between the Jews and Islam and try to understand why that relationship has moved from a position of relative coexistence to one of confrontation.
