Volunteers
The Jewish Museum is a community museum and has always
been supported by a wonderful team of volunteers. Over 300 volunteers
assist the staff in all areas of the Museum's activities including fundraising,
publications, exhibition research, collection care and registration, guiding,
school and adult education, working at reception and in the Museum's shop.

New Guides:
The guiding team of the Jewish Musuem is continually
expanding and new guides are always welcome. There are several categories
of guiding, beginning with the guide who is a knowledgable host in the
five galleries upstairs - four permanent and one temporary gallery.
Expertise extends to leading adult groups, school groups, synagogue tours
and participation in the Museum Outreach team.
A training course is offered for new guides who are then required to join
a stimulating ongoing education program throughout the year. This takes
place on Monday mornings except for holidays. Speakers that include leading
academics, speak on a plethora of topics embracing religion, history (Jewish
and comparative) and contemporary issues.
This year a special series takes us on a journey down our Timeline Galllery
based on both a chronological and thematic approach to Jewish History.
Workshops are conducted on guiding methodology, including presentations
practice and recent guiding trends.
Video mornings and social functions also feature in the yearly calendar.
Briefly the training course comprises
- regular
attendance on Monday mornings
- serving
an "apprenticeship" by spending time as a trainee attached to an experienced
guide in the galleries during Museum times
- study
of resource material provided.
Prerequisites:
- a
love of Judaism
- a
thirst for knowledge
- enjoyment
of social interaction
